Tensions

One of the main tensions in this blog is to decide when to "publish" a song. Common wisdom says that an artist should show its art only when it is finished. It makes sense if you want to maximize the impact of your art on the public, but is this really what I want?

Well, yes I guess, but I don't have time (or discipline) to "finish" hundreds of songs the way I would like, especially when I see infinite possibilities of developing each song. So, I will show the songs in sometimes a very crude form and let people develop their own versions.

And yet... some songs clearly deserve more thought, a better understanding of what makes them interesting and a lot more exploration. It does not feel right to show them naked, deformed, when they could be beautiful with just a bit more of polishing. Besides, each time I listen to them they crystallize in my brain and it is more difficult to change them.

Well, people die, sometimes suddenly, so I will not wait for the right time to publish a song. Internet will be full of garbage if everyone does the same, but... well, it is full of garbage anyway. The pursuit of beauty in this blog will thus be truncated, but will continue. I hope you can imagine the songs the way they should be, instead of the way they are.

From now until Christmas, I will try to upload a new song everyday. The reason is simple: TRA has 25 songs. TRA is a pseudo-album, forever unfinished and infinitely editable. I will try to improve what I have now and will share it with the billions of fans out there (fans of other bands I mean)...

I am distracted. Only now I discovered the planets. Mercury, Venus, etc... even Earth! In case you are not familiar with them, the others are: Mars and Sun (yes), Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto (yes). Oh, and the Moon. Don't be distracted, the solar system is only a few clicks away.

Instead of trying to post finished songs, which I now know that I would take forever to terminate, I will just leave them as they are, more or less free, with errors, embrionary, unmastered, etc. They will evolve, in time. They are my experimental garden of Whatevers.

Estive a ouvir algumas das últimas músicas que publiquei. Pelo título, não sei bem dizer qual é qual. Ouvindo, descubro-as, pois já não me lembrava delas. Ao longo de uma música, vou tentando prever o que acontece a seguir e não me lembro. Surpreendo-me, o que é bom, mas... que raio de autor sou eu, que já não conhece a sua obra? Estará assim tão adiantada a minha doença daquele senhor de origem árabe (começa por "Al")?

Intentions...

De boas intenções está o inferno cheio. Este blogger tem a boa intenção de fazer música, "na brincadeira", para toda a vida. Sem stress e sem ambição. Partilhando com quem quiser, porque a tecnologia o permite, mas na realidade de forma egoísta pois tudo parte da satisfação de uma necessidade pessoal. Preciso de ouvir música e gosto de procurá-la em sítios esquisitos. Experimentando com muita preguiça. Dá-me prazer.

Estes últimos tempos têm sido de silêncio por várias razões. Estive longe. Quando estava perto e tinha o sintetizador, ele avariou ou quando estava bom não lhe podia tocar. Foi necessário muito tempo para outras coisas, muita coisa mudou. Agora está tudo quase normal, mas ainda não consegui voltar a por o computador a receber o que vem do sintetizador. Damn software. Espero que em breve o blog volte a dar música, é uma boa intenção.

E talvez gradualmente vá introduzindo alguma intenção nas músicas. Essa é uma das tensões que define este blog: quanto devo usar de intenção e quanto de acaso/erro (que dá liberdade)? Sei que não quero "intencionar" demais: a minha vontade tende a estragar tudo. Mas tenho cada vez mais vontade de usar a minha vontade. Principalmente, tenho vontade de investir nisto um pouco mais de esforço do que o que tenho feito até agora: "seize the day", "life is hard and then you die".

Mas não sei se vou ter tempo: essa é a maior tensão de todas. A música não é tudo.

Discos perdidos

Bill Nelson. Este é um disco que procuro literalmente há décadas. Nos anos 80, perguntei por ele numa discoteca e pensaram que eu queria dizer Willie Nelson. Nos anos 90, várias tentativas de o encontrar saíram frustadas. Esta década procurei na Amazon, CDnow e nada. Hoje, encontrei finalmente a música que insistentemente durante todo este tempo repeti na minha cabeça para não me esquecer (teria sido mais fácil ter repetido apenas o título, mas não daria o mesmo gozo e nem sempre na rádio dizem os títulos das músicas...). Mas aqui está, graças ao bendito Youtube. Será que passados 30 anos vou finalmente conhecer todo o álbum?! ("For future reference", não vá o diabo tecê-las, irei acrescentar aqui mais links deste desconhecido (também para mim!) album: 1 2 3)

...deste blog. Parou no tempo desde Setembro. E já há quase um ano que não sai uma música nova. Ena pá.
Desculpem, isto não era para ser assim. Ainda vai demorar alguns meses para voltar à produção, mas há-de chegar o tempo.
